HARWOOD, N.D. – North Dakota Senator John Hoeven’s office has told Flag Family News the groundbreaking for the Fargo National Cemetery’s veterans memorial center will be held on Monday, November 24.
The Fargo Memorial Honor Guard, state, federal and local leaders and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Undersecretary for Memorial Affairs Sam Brown are expected to attend.

In June, Hoeven told Flag Family News the welcome center will take up almost 6,800 square feet of space with a gathering area, indoor restrooms and an indoor committal shelter.
It has been financed with almost $5 million in donations from the Fargo Memorial Honor Guard along with funding from the North Dakota Legislature and the federal government.
A bill to help fund the welcome center was introduced in the Minnesota legislature by DFL State Senator Rob Kupec of Moorhead this year, but it didn’t make it to the Senate Floor.
