Groundbreaking on new ND State Hospital in Jamestown

Jamestown, N.D. – Governor Kelly Armstrong took part in a Monday groundbreaking ceremony for a new North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown.

The $300 million facility will provide psychiatric inpatient care and other services for patients, replacing the old hospital that has served the area since 1885.

“This project represents our commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate behavioral health care across North Dakota,” Armstrong said.

“It’s a reflection of our focus on modernizing public services and collaboration, from state legislators to care teams. With a new State Hospital, we’re investing not only in infrastructure but in people – those receiving care and those providing it.”

The 300,000 square foot facility will offer 140 beds for patients.

Construction is set to start in August, with completion expected by the end of 2027.
