LAKE TRAVERSE RESERVATION – North Dakota state officials and legislators met with Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate officials on Tuesday, August 19.
The tribe hosted the discussion at Dakota Magic Casino near Hankinson.
Discussions focused on gambling, healthcare, addiction, recovery and corrections.
“Waiting for somebody to come in and save the day on any of this stuff means we’re going to wait a very long time,” Armstrong said at the meeting. “We can do it here, though, and we can figure out small ways to make big changes, and it starts with meetings like this.”
The North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission has scheduled the meetings to introduce Governor Kelly Armstrong’s administration to tribal nations to build effective partnerships.
