HORACE, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A woman is dead in Horace in what the Cass County Sheriff’s Office has called an unknown disturbance.

Deputies were called to 7994 Jacks Way around 8:00 AM on Wednesday November 5.

Authorities say while there, they learned a female was injured and a male had left the scene, looking for medical help. Lifesaving measures were done on the female, but she died.

The Sheriff’s Office said someone has been detained who they believed was on scene when the incident happened.

“The Sheriff’s Office appreciates the public’s patience as we investigate this incident and would ask that people stay away from this location,” Sheriff Jesse Jahner said in a press release.

As far as other participants, Jahner said in a press conference that the Sheriff’s Department believes they have everyone who was on scene detained.

He says the scene remains active and the investigation is ongoing.

A Valley News Live reporter said an apartment complex in that area is completely surrounded by law enforcement and caution tape.

Sanford Health says they were made aware of the situation near their Sanford Horace Clinic and it has been put into lockdown.

The West Fargo Public School district sent this message to staff and families at Horace Elementary, Heritage Middle School and Horace High School

“This morning, Red River Regional Dispatch contacted the three schools in Horace to alert them to an incident that occurred in an apartment building along County Road 17. Dispatch shared with each school that they had the person believed to be responsible in custody and that no action was required to be taken. Since this occurred during arrival time, each school did initiate a “secured building” response to ensure that only learners and staff were allowed inside. At no time was there any danger to any of the three campuses in Horace.”

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says they will be holding a press conference regarding this incident, but didn’t provide a time.
