Klobuchar: Fewer Canadians traveling to MN citing tariffs

WASHINGTON – Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar says traveler data shows the number of Canadians coming across the northern border to Minnesota was down 31 percent in April.

That’s compared to the same time last year.

“We need to be encouraging visitors, not deterring travel with hostile tariff policies,” Klobuchar wrote on X.

President Donald Trump has put tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum and vehicles. The president says he plans to double the taxes on steel and aluminum to 50 percent on Wednesday, June 4 “to further secure the steel industry in the United States.”

Mr. Trump has also suggested Canada should become the U.S.’ 51st state.

“I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
