FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A Fargo man is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly beating a man with a folding lawn chair outside of the New Life Center.
Court documents say police were called to the shelter just before 4:00 A.M. on August 14. When they arrived, they spoke to the victim who had a severe head wound and hand injury but no memory of the assault.
Surveillance showed the suspect, identified by shelter staff as former resident Breon Anderson, use the folding chair to strike the victim multiple times before fleeing on a bicycle.
Staff provided Anderson’s information and known hangout location to police, who located him wearing identical clothing to what was seen in the video. After initially giving a false name, he admitted to being Breon Anderson. He denied involvement in the assault incident even after being shown the surveillance footage.
Anderson also had an active warrant for theft and simple assault out of Cass County and was arrested for both the warrant and aggravated assault.
The victim was treated for a bleeding forehead gash requiring stitches and a swollen hand. He independently identified Anderson’s clothing. The bloodied folding chair was collected and logged into evidence.
