Man becomes trapped in grain bin in Wilkin County

WILKIN COUNTY, MN – A man trapped in a grain bin in western Minnesota is recovering after being taken to the hospital on Monday afternoon.

The Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office says dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at just before 12:15 p.m. regarding a man that had been trapped in a grain bin near Campbell, Minn. The man had been stuck for approximately 30 minutes before calling for help and was discovered submerged up to his waist in corn. He was also complaining of leg pain, according to a release from the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Crews from Campbell and Tintah responded to provide aid using specialized grain bin rescue equipment. The Minnesota State Patrol, St. Francis Ambulance, Breckenridge Fire Department and Alexandria Air Care also all responded.

The man was located in the center of the bin when deputies arrived on scene. He was alert and conscious.

Personnel extricated the man more than an hour after the initial call and transported him to Essentia Hospital in Fargo by ambulance.

Wilkin County Sheriff’s officials say this is the third grain bin accident in the state this summer.
