Man charged in deadly Wolverton, Minn. shooting asked ‘Do you trust me?’ before gun went off

WOLVERTON, Minn. (Valley News Live) – A Wolverton man has now been formally charged for a deadly New Year’s Day shooting.

Myron Johanson has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of Jorden Boehm.

According to court documents, witnesses told law enforcement that there had been a party at the 1700 block of Highway 75 in Wolverton with about 10 invited guests.

Incident

According to witnesses, Johanson took out a gun that he had been carrying and “playing with” throughout the night, put it under the victim’s chin, and asked, “do you trust me?” The witness said that the gun then went off.

Other witnesses reported they then saw Boehm bleeding from his neck while Johanson told people to call 911 while he was still holding the gun. He then reportedly ran into a bedroom with the gun.

Gun present throughout the night

Multiple people reported that Johanson had pointed the gun at other guests. One witness said Johanson pointed it into the face of another guest who pushed the gun away. He also reportedly pointed the gun at himself on multiple occasions.

He had asked another guest if he “trusted him” while holding the gun to his head. When the witness said no, he then reportedly laughed and loaded a round into the chamber.

Johanson was given his Miranda rights by law enforcement and said he cleared the gun and put it in his bed before calling 911. He pointed out the gun to deputies before he was taken to Wilkin County jail.

The third-degree murder charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. The maximum sentence for the manslaughter charge is 10 years and/or a $20,000 fine.
