Man dies while en route to hospital after workplace accident

MOORHEAD, MINN. – A man is dead after being transported by ambulance following a workplace accident in Moorhead.

Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting says the sheriffs office and Sanford Ambulance responded to a workplace incident at Bert’s Truck Equipment on Highway 75 North in Moorhead at 9 a.m. The incident involved a traumatic chest injury when an axle fell on the individual.

Deputies and first responders located the male in the shop area and he was alert, conscious and speaking with deputies when Sanford Ambulance arrived and began their medical assessment before transporting him by ambulance away from the scene.

Empting says the man lost consciousness while en route to the hospital. Life-saving measures were initiated at that time by the ambulance crew.

When they arrived at Sanford Hospital, staff from the emergency room continued the live-saving measures, but those efforts were not successful and the man was pronounced dead.

Family members are being notified and law enforcement continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
