Mavericks chosen as Dickinson High School’s new mascot

DICKINSON, N.D. (VALLEY NEWS LIVE) Dickinson High School has a new mascot: The Mavericks.

Students in grades five through 12 voted on the name this week. They also chose a logo featuring a cowboy riding a horse. The district says the logo may change a little, but students say this is the idea they liked best.

The Midgets mascot will be retired at the end of the school year. Dickinson has had that mascot for the past 100 years. School officials decided earlier this spring to retire the Midgets’ name after some groups were not allowed to compete nationally because of the nickname. The Mavericks will keep orange and black as their school colors.
