FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Midco has announced the next phase of its multi-year Fiber Forward initiative.
In 2021, Midco launched Fiber Forward in an effort to bring fiber connectivity to more than 150,000 homes and businesses throughout North Dakota. On Wednesday, October 22nd, the company announced the next phase of the project with an $18 million investment in fiber network upgrades.
$7.6 million dollars will fund the multi-gig fiber internet for over 36,000 homes and businesses in Horace, West Fargo, and Fargo by next year.
Upgrades in Dilworth, Mapleton, Casselton, Harwood, Oxbow, Reiles Acres, Frontier, and Sabin will begin in 2027. The Fargo-Moorhead area is expected to be completed by 2028.
With the project, customers will get symmetrical 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) speeds and can choose to opt into a 2 Gbps download/1 Gbps upload plan.
“Midco’s investment enhances our region’s connectivity, ensuring that we not only stay globally competitive, but are also able to continue attracting companies and talent to our region,” said Shannon Full, President & CEO, Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce.
The Fargo Park District Foundation also addressed the next phase of Midco’s investment:
“Midco’s partnership with the Fargo Park District and our Foundations has been nothing short of transformative for our community. Their support of the Fargo Parks Sports Center—through the Midco Track and Midco Lounge—and Broadway Square’s Midco Pavilion has created vibrant, inclusive spaces that bring people together year-round,” said Fargo Park District Foundation Executive Director Craig Bjur.
“The Midco walking track offers thousands of residents a safe and accessible way to stay active and healthy, especially during our long winter months. We’re proud to collaborate with Midco in building a stronger, healthier and more connected region.”
