Minn., N.D. & S.D. members of Congress concerned about Trump wanting to buy Argentinian beef

WASHINGTON – Seven Republican members of Congress, including Reps. Michelle Fischbach of Minnesota, Julie Fedorchak of North Dakota and Dusty Johnson of South Dakota, have sent President Donald Trump a letter urging him to give American producers an opportunity to meet increased beef demand.

This comes as Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says he’s looking into the U.S. buying beef from Argentina to reduce costs in our country.

“While we recognize the importance of strong trade relationships and diverse markets, our producers are seeking clarity on how this decision will be made, what safety and inspection standards will apply, and how this policy aligns with your administration’s commitment to strengthening American agriculture,” the members of Congress said in the letter obtained by Flag Family News.

The members of Congress said the cattle industry supports thousands of jobs across their districts and contributes $112 billion to rural economies nationwide.

This comes as President Trump is working to give $40 billion in financial assistance to Argentina contingent with President Javier Milei winning reelection.

Farmers are upset because the South American country has sold soybeans to China and China hasn’t bought any American soybeans because of the president’s tariffs.

“Our American ranchers have dedicated their lives to delivering the highest‑quality beef while upholding the gold standard in food safety, Fischbach said. “No one creates a better product at a better value than American farmers and ranchers. Prioritizing America’s food producers is essential to an American-First agenda, which I will continue to support.”

“We’ve all received a number of questions and calls from our constituents over the last few days, so we are asking for clarity on the administration’s long-term plans. Our farmers and ranchers stand ready to deliver on the President’s America-First agenda,” Fedorchak said. “North Dakotans take great pride in producing the safest, highest-quality beef in the world—and we should be building on that success. When it comes to beef, no one does it better than the United States.”

“South Dakota’s cattle producers set the standard for quality and safety in beef production,” Johnson said. “I understand the President’s efforts to strengthen trade and keep food affordable, but those efforts should not undermine the farmer and ranchers who put dinner on our tables. Any decision to import foreign beef must hold countries to the same gold-standard regulations our producers meet every day. American ranchers play by the rules, produce the best beef in the world, and they deserve a fair shot to compete.”
