Minnesota budget forecast improves from March numbers

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -Minnesota could face some major budget constraints in the coming years, but it’s not as bad as previously expected.

The latest spending plan and economic forecast from the state’s Management and Budget agency projects a nearly $2.5 billion surplus for the 2026 to 2027 biennium. That’s nearly $2 billion more than projections in March.

MMB projects a nearly three billion dollar deficit for the 2028 to 2029 biennium. That’s $3 billion less than forecasted in March.
