Minnesota joins 25 other states in suing Trump administration over SNAP benefit suspension

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The state of Minnesota joins 25 other states in suing the Trump administration over the suspension of SNAP benefits.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison argues the administration unlawfully suspended the payments.

More than 440,000 Minnesotans and nearly 60,000 North Dakotans, who received SNAP benefits will not get financial assistance on November 1st if Congress doesn’t end the government shutdown.

If the payments don’t arrive, it will be the first time in the 60-year history of the Department of the Agriculture, even during a shutdown.

The coalition of states is asking a court to “immediately restore SNAP funding,” and add a temporary restraining order to stop the cuts.
