WASHINGTON – Democratic Minnesota Congresswoman Dr. Kelly Morrison urges Small Business Administrator Kelly Loeffler to support a tariff exemption for small businesses.
“It’s completely unacceptable that this administration is willing to give exemptions to massive tech corporations that can lobby the president,” Morrison said in a House Small Business Committee hearing.
The president exempted smartphones, laptops and televisions from tariffs in April, later describing them as temporary.
“Our president is negotiating fair trade for the first time in 30 years. Who is advocating for the American worker?” Loeffler responded.
“Please, administrator. Small businesses need an exemption,” Morrison said talking over Loeffler.
President Donald Trump increased steel and aluminum tariffs to 50 percent this week. His administration says this addresses “trade practices that undermine national security.”
