MN BCA identifies officers involved in Frazee Shooting

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The MN BCA has identified the officers who fired at a man in Otter Tail County, on Wednesday, July 9, during a domestic violence investigation.

The say 36-year-old Todd Burris of Bemidji, drove away from a traffic stop in Detroit Lakes and pulled into the rest stop off HWY 10 near Frazee.

The BCA says that’s when Burris got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at officers leading to an exchange of gun fire with two officers.

We now know: those officers are Becker County Sheriff’s Department’s Lt. Luke Sweere, who has 26 years law enforcement experience, and Detroit Lakes Officer Philip Vaughn who has 16 years experience.

Burris, authorities say, was hit in both legs, and was transported to a hospital in Fargo, where he remains hospitalized.

Neither officer was hurt, but both have been placed on standard administrative leave.
