LISTEN: Steve Hallstrom’s interview with Rep. Michelle Fischbach on The Flag
WASHINGTON – After months of President Donald Trump calling the push for files to be released surrounding the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein “a hoax”, he signed a bill on Wednesday, November 19 that will make the Department of Justice hand them over to Congress within 30 days.
All members of the House and Senate voted in favor of releasing the Epstein files except Republican Congressman Clay Higgins of Louisiana.
Republicans on the House Oversight Committee, including Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach, were trying to get the documents and redact victim’s names. That was not done in the bill the president signed.
“The legislation was not perfect, but this will just put it all out there. The comfort level more than anything was let’s just get them released for the sake of transparency,” Fischbach said on The Flag.
In September, Fischbach told Flag Family News the bill that was eventually passed by Congress releasing the Epstein files “would turn over control of the House floor to Nancy Pelosi and Hakeem Jeffries, who are using this issue and these victims as a political stunt.”
