Moorhead, Minn. (Valley News Live) – The Moorhead City Council approved the sale of the current location for the Moorhead Public Library during their regular Monday meeting.
The sale comes after the construction of the new library “The Loop” that is set to open in the spring of 2026.
The Mayor and City Council were asked to hold a public hearing to consider the sale in which no residents spoke.
The current public library was constructed in 1962.
The building will be purchased for $1.4 million by a development company based in Tampa, Florida. The company has plans to renovate the building for commercial retail, office and/or a mixed-use facility.
Assistant City Manager Mike Rietz stated during the public hearing that the proceeds of the sale will go toward the building improvement fund to address capital facility needs.
