UPDATE – Moorhead Police say the mother of a 20-month-old child who died last week has been arrested on suspicion of second degree murder.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office says Jose Zamora died from a homicide. His mother, 32-year-old Valerie Zamora, was arrested in Fargo and will be extradited to Moorhead.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
A Korsmo Funeral Service obituary says Zamora always looked up to his big sister and big brother. The family is holding a private funeral.
MOORHEAD, MINN. — Moorhead Police are looking into a suspicious death of a 20-month-old child.
The Department says they were contacted by the Cass County Coroner’s Office in the late-night hours Thursday. The child was brought to Sanford Medical Center from Moorhead. Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.
Moorhead Police responded to the hospital to begin an investigation. They say the child was living in the 1100 block of 18 ½ Street South. Officers secured the residence as part of the investigation.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation, with the Crime Scene Unit processing the scene.
An autopsy will take place. The investigation is ongoing.
