More details shared about what caused Friday lockdown at West Fargo HS

WEST FARGO, N.D. – New information is being shared about what caused a brief lockdown last week at West Fargo High School.

In a letter to parents and guardians, the West Fargo Public School System says four juveniles, three of whom were not students, were on campus on the afternoon of Aug. 29th.

The situation resulted in an almost 20 minute lockdown after one of the non-students was spotted inside the building.

The kid ran off as a school resource officer was escorting the person to the main office.

After reviewing surveillance camera footage, the school system says the group initially failed to get inside but were able to gain entry through a “second set of interior doors.”

“After consulting with our maintenance department this morning, we determined that the spring tension and latch speed on the middle set of doors needed adjustment,” the statement read.

The letter went on to say that “adjustments have been made” and “the doors are now working as expected.”

“The security guard at WFHS will be conducting frequent checks of these doors over the next few weeks to ensure the door continues to function as expected,” the statement added.

At the time of the lockdown, the school said no threats were made and students were never in danger.

“It is a credit to the WFHS team that within the first seven days of school, they were already familiar enough with their student body to recognize someone who didn’t belong.”
