Mural installation to force closures of downtown roadways

FARGO, ND – A mural on the intersection of 2nd Avenue North and 5th Street North in Fargo will close some downtown roads next week.

The closures will impact 5th Street North, between 1st and 3rd Avenues North, and 2nd Avenue North, between Broadway and 4th Street North. No through traffic will be allowed on either section of roadway. City officials say the Radisson Hotel parking ramp will be accessible from 4th Street North, and the RDO Building parking ramp will be accessible from 3rd Avenue North.

Folkways received a grant from AARP, formerly the American Association for Retired Persons, to install the mural. City officials say the ‘colorful large-scale pattern’ reflects the region’s landscape and will be installed on the street surface. The project looks to create a ‘vibrant piece of art’ promoting neighborhood engagement and safety for pedestrians and vehicles.

The closure begins Sunday and is expected to end Friday – one day prior to the opening of the Red River Market.
