NORTH DAKOTA – North Dakota honey producers are asking the Trump administration to place additional tariffs on imported honey.
Producers say they want tariffs levied against multiple countries, particularly India and Vietnam. Tariffs on honey from China have already been in effect for about 20 years.
Former American Honey Producers Association President Chris Hiatt says China has been sending honey through India and Vietnam “and it’s coming in duty-free.”
North Dakota is the number one honey-producing state in the nation according to the state’s Department of Agriculture. In 2023, North Dakota bees produced 38.3 million pounds of honey valued at over $67.8 million.
