BISMARCK, N.D. – For the first time since 2018, the North Dakota Supreme Court’s total filings eclipsed 400.
According to the court’s annual report, 406 cases were filed.
Civil matters accounted for 69 percent of the total caseload and increased 21 percent compared to 2024. The largest increase in civil matters was in juvenile matters, which doubled as compared to 2024 from 25 to 50 new matters.
Criminal matters took up 32 percent of the total caseload, decreasing 18 percent compared to last year. The state’s high court saw matters involving assault, homicide, sex-related offenses, terrorizing and felonies increase, with terrorizing increasing by 60 percent.
