BISMARCK — Abortion has been deemed illegal in North Dakota.
The North Dakota Supreme Court issued a split ruling Friday, which means a ruling last year at the district court level couldn’t be upheld. Four of the five justices would’ve needed to agree for the law to be upheld — only three did: Justices Daniel Crothers and Lisa Fair McEvers and District Court Judge Daniel Narum, who replaced Justice Douglas Bahr, who was disqualified in making the decision.
Former N.D. Governor Doug Burgum signed an abortion ban into law in April 2023.
