National Guard to help City of Saint Paul deal with cyberattack aftermath

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Governor Tim Walz has issued an immediate executive order to get help from the Minnesota National Guard’s cyber protection unit because of a cyberattack on the City of Saint Paul.

“The Minnesota National Guard’s cyber forces will collaborate with city, state, and federal officials to resolve the situation and mitigate lasting impacts. Above all, we are committed to protecting the safety and security of the people of Saint Paul,” Walz said in a statement.

The security breach happened overnight Friday, July 25 into the next morning according to Minnesota Senate Republicans.

“We are living in a heightened threat environment. I expect the State Patrol and Capitol Security teams will thoroughly review what happened and give Capitol officials and staff, and the public, their assurances that this will not happen again,” Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson (R-East Grand Forks) wrote in a statement.
