GRAND FORKS, ND – The National Weather Service office in Grand Forks has issued preliminary data regarding Friday night’s tornadoes.
On Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service assigned three storms with preliminary tornado ratings. They say the ratings are based on damage and are preliminary and subject to change.
“It may take several days (or even weeks) before final ratings are determined,” the weather service said in a social media post.
The tornado spotted west of Valley City is preliminarily rated at least an EF-3 tornado, while the tornado south of Valley City is preliminary rated at least an EF-2. Enderlin’s tornado has been rated at least EF-3. The weather service is not able to preliminarily rate the Bemidji area tornado at this time.
An EF-2 tornado has wind speeds between 111 and 135 miles per hour, while EF-3 tornado wind speeds are between 136 and 165 miles per hour.
Three teams are currently surveying damage – one focusing on Barnes County, another on the Enderlin area and the third in Bemidji.
