ND National Guard to assist with search for Texas flood victims

Bismarck, N.D. – Governor Kelly Armstrong is authorizing the use of the North Dakota National Guard to help search for flood victims in Texas.

As of July 10th, more than 100 people have been confirmed dead in the flooding this month along the Guadalupe River with almost 200 other people missing.

Armstrong says the National Guard will provide aerial support through its 119th Wing based out of Fargo at the request of Texas Governor Gregg Abbott through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact.

“Other states have come to our aid in extremely challenging times, and North Dakota stands ready to help Texas through this catastrophe however we can,” Armstrong said in a statement.

“We pray for everyone affected by the flash flooding, especially those families grieving lost loved ones, and thank all the first responders, volunteers, search and rescue teams, and emergency management personnel working day and night to provide safety, shelter and closure.”

The Guard will use the MQ-9 Reaper, which is remotely piloted and will be the first time it’s used for such a mission.
