NDDOT reports five snowplows have been hit this season

BISMARCK, ND – The state of North Dakota’s Department of Transportation has seen five of its snowplows hit this season.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the last two were hit in the southwestern part of the state. The drivers encountered snow fog while the plows were actively working. One of the two crashes led to minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol reminds drivers that plow drivers will periodically lift their blade to allow traffic to pass safely. The public is asked to stay back at least 100 feet, or between five and six car lengths as the plows may need to straddle lanes or have to make sudden adjustments.

“Plow drivers, first responders, and wrecker services are out trying to keep the road systems open and safe,” the NDHP said in a social media post. “Help them get home safe too: slow down, increase following distance, and never assume the lane in front of you is clear if you cannot see clearly.”
