NDHHS warns of potential SNAP benefits pause

BISMARCK — Due to the 2025 federal government shutdown, future Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits may be impacted in North Dakota.

If the shutdown continues past Oct. 31, SNAP benefits will be paused beginning Nov. 1, 2025, for all SNAP benefit recipients because of a lapse in federal appropriations.

“North Dakota Health and Human Services is waiting on further federal guidance to provide updates on when SNAP benefits will resume, if paused, and if benefits for November will be issued,” the department posted on its website.
