ST PAUL, MN – Security changes have been put in place at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.
The changes began today.
Two entrances will be open during regular business hours – one less than previous. The main south entrance at the top of the Capitol doors will have the far west set of two doors open, and the ground-level accessible entrance – located beneath the Capitol steps – will be accessible through the two middle doors.
Department of Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson approved the changes, which were recommended by the Minnesota State Patrol.
“The Capitol is more than just a building. It’s a symbol of democracy and a place where Minnesotans come to be heard,” he said. “These updated security measures reflect our responsibility and commitment to protecting everyone who works at or visits the Capitol while keeping the building open and accessible to all. We remain committed to continuously reviewing and improving security protocols.”
The presence of Capitol Security officers will be increased at the entrances as well.
