(BISMARCK, ND) – North Dakota is helping to fund some water projects that would have fallen under the federal government’s purview.
On Thursday, Governor Kelly Armstrong signed House Bill 1577 at the State Capitol in Bismarck.
“These projects were shovel ready,” Senator Jeff Magrum said. “We hated to leave them hanging with the wastewater trouble they have.”
The bill will appropriate up to $9.7 million to the Department of Environmental Quality for the purpose of providing wastewater infrastructure grants for the biennium beginning on July 1. The grants would be made available to fund two projects – one in Fessenden and another in Lincoln.
“They’re in dire need, and so it’s a good thing we took care of them,” Magrum said of the two projects.
A separate project in Washburn is going to be included in a different bill, he said. That project is worth about $7 million.
