(BISMARCK, ND) – The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services says the state’s first case of measles since 2011 has been reported.
Officials say the case involves an unvaccinated child in Williams County. The child is believed to have contracted the illness from an out-of-state visitor.
The individual is said to be currently isolating at home and the Department of Health and Human Services is contacting those who may have been exposed and advises unvaccinated individuals on how long to quarantine.
North Dakota’s measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination rate among toddlers is reported at 81 percent, and the MMR vaccination rate for kindergarteners is 90 percent.
