Listen: Scott Hennen’s conversation with Erin Oban
NORTH DAKOTA – A group advocates for valuing public education in North Dakota and to oppose policies that threaten access to it.
Former Democratic-NPL State Senator Erin Oban said North Dakotans For Public Schools is dedicated to strengthening and protecting public schools.
“Public schools are so central to our communities and to the lives of families. We just want to add another voice into those conversations,” Oban explained on The Flag.
The group also aims to inform, engage and amplify the voices of people who may not be as close to public schools as they were before while dispelling falsehoods.
Oban said one she heard while in the legislature was about students using litterboxes in schools.
“If you hear something that you think is concerning, ask the people that are directly in them if this is something that they’re seeing or experiencing or that is happening in their school. Decision-making should be based in reality,” Oban said.
Oban added because the group advocates for public schools, that doesn’t mean it’s against private schools.
