CROOKSTON, Minn. – Polk County Sheriff Jim Tadman has announced he will retire in January 2027.
At that point, he will have served the Sheriff’s Office for more than 38 years.
“I never imagined my start as a Polk County intern would turn into becoming Sheriff. I have had an exciting full career and want to thank everyone who believed in me through the years,” Tadman said in a statement.
Tadman has worked as an intern, patrol deputy, investigator, K9 handler at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, went undercover for the Polk/Norman County Drug Task Force, was a SWAT Team member and sniper, and was a training instructor for the Sheriff’s Office and Northland Community and Technical College.
“Serving this county has been a gift and a privilege I will always carry with me. Throughout my tenure, I have been proud to work alongside dedicated sheriffs (Sheriff Doug Qualley, Sheriff Mark Letexier, and Sheriff Barb Erdman) chief deputies, sergeants, deputies, corrections officers, dispatchers, civilian staff, county commissioners, and partner agencies who share a commitment to integrity, professionalism, and public safety,” Tadman said.
Tadman said his focus will be on making sure there will be a smooth and responsible transition of leadership to a new sheriff.
