‘We got him’: 22-year old Tyler Robinson arrested and accused of killing Charlie Kirk

OREM, UT – “We got him.”

Those words were the first words from Governor Spencer Cox, as the search for Charlie Kirk’s assassin has officially come to an end.

Cox, at a Friday morning press conference, announced that the suspect, who has now been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, turned himself in on Thursday night. He was arrested at 10 p.m. local time in Utah on Thursday night, more than 260 miles from the scene of the crime, in Washington.

It’s unclear exactly who accompanied Robinson as he turned himself in, but Cox said a family member went to the police with information that led to the arrest of Robinson late Thursday night. Family members told investigators that Robinson ‘had become more political in recent years,” and had brought up Kirk to a family member recently and why he didn’t like him.

Cox said he believed Robinson worked alone and was not a student at the University.

Kirk was on the Utah Valley University campus Wednesday for one of his Turning Point USA “The American Comeback Tour” events. He indicated that Robinson had arrived at Utah Valley University in Orem at 8:27 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

The arrest was the culmination of work between multiple law enforcement agencies.

“This is what happens when you let good cops be cops,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in the press conference.

Patel shared a brief timeline of the events, which lasted roughly 33 hours. The shot rang out at 12:23 p.m. local time Wednesday, with the first FBI agents and law enforcement arriving on scene just 16 minutes later.

Bullet cashings were found with writings on them, such as “Catch facists,” an up arrow, right arrow and three down arrows, as well as the words “If you read this you are Gay, LMAO!”

Cox said he anticipates charging documents to be filed next week.
