FARGO – A scam artist targeting the Cass County Sheriff’s Office is resurfacing.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the scam call shows up as ‘No Caller ID’ and claims falsely to be Sergeant Greg Dawkins with the sheriff’s office.
The caller requests a call back at 701-343-9627 and, when the number goes unanswered, the scammer calls back and insists there is ‘an important legal matter’ to discuss.
The sheriff’s office asks the public to exercise caution when receiving calls claiming to be from deputies with their office. To verify legitimacy, hang up if the call seems suspicious and call dispatch at 701-451-7660 and request to speak with the deputy in question. An on-duty deputy will confirm the legitimacy.
