Scam DMV text circulates in Minnesota

MINNESOTA – The Minnesota Department of Public Safety warns about a scam text claiming the person receiving it has unpaid fines from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

An easy way to know texts like these are fake is because Minnesota doesn’t have a DMV. The department that deals with drivers licenses and vehicle registration is the Department of Vehicle Services.

DPS says DVS won’t ever text you about citations, ticket notices or tolls due.

If you wonder if a text sent by a state department is a scam, call that agency before clicking on any links or replying.
