Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for the region

REGION – A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for much of the Red River Valley until 9 p.m. this evening.

The watch extends from Grand Forks County south into South Dakota, east into Minnesota and as far west as the James River Valley.

The National Weather Service says there’s a level two out of five risk of severe storms this afternoon and evening. The main threats with the storm include flash flooding, wind gusts to 60 miles per hour and quarter-size hail. Frequent lightning is also a threat.

Subsequently, a flood watch has been issued, beginning at 4 p.m. today and in effect until the early morning hours on Saturday.
