SPIRIT LAKE NATION – (Valley News Live) – The water emergency at Spirit Lake Nation is going to last a bit longer than originally thought.
Water distribution to those living on the reservation was originally set to last up until June 11, but officials confirmed with Valley News Live the date has now been pushed back to June 25.
The tribe also said they expect to have a temporary fix to their unsafe drinking water by then.
The tribe announced May 28 their drinking water supply had elevated levels of manganese and was unsafe to consume, whether it be from drinking the water or cooking with it. Boiling the water doesn’t make it safe to drink.
Cases of water have been available for those affected. Officials have been making one case of water available for every two people in a household.
