Teen pleads guilty, faces up to decade in prison for Fargo shooting

FARGO, N.D. – Seventeen-year-old Tristin Coggins of Dilworth, Minnesota pleaded guilty to aggravated assault charges and six other counts on Monday, October 6.

Attempted murder charges were dropped.

Coggins was prosecuted as an adult for a shooting that happened during a fight at the Southwood Apartments on the 2500 block of 15th Street South in Fargo in March 2024. He fired four shots and struck a woman in the leg.

Investigators argued his version of the self-defense argument doesn’t align with evidence in the case.

Coggins faces four to 10 years in prison at sentencing in December.
