Teens officially charged in shooting near Grand Forks hotel

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Two teens in Grand Forks have officially been charged for their part in a shooting that happened outside a hotel in Grand Forks on January 3.

Mason Allery, 16, and Walker Poitra, 18, are both facing 5 charges of attempted murder, 5 charges of reckless endangerment, 1 charge of terrorizing, 1 charge of criminal mischief and 1 charge of unlawful possession of a handgun.

Court Documents say on January 3, at 10:35 p.m., Grand Forks Police responded to 1211 N, 47th Street, #205 for a suspicious activity call.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim who said Allery showed her a handgun in the room of the hotel, and proved it was real by taking out several bullets.

The victim told police her and Allery left the room and had confrontation in the hallway which she recorded. In the video, Allery is seen pulling something out of his pocket and activating a light and pointing it at the victim. The victim told police she knew it was a gun and that she was in fear for her life.

According to documents, 20 minutes after the initial suspicious activity call, police were called to 1000 N, 42nd Street for reports of gunshots.

Upon arrival, officers were able to locate Allery and Poitra and apprehend them.

Police say multiple witnesses stated that Poitra had a handgun and was showing it to multiple people and taking out bullets to prove it was real.

After further investigation, it was determined that Poitra fired multiple rounds at and into a vehicle twice. Documents say there were five people inside the vehicle, two of which were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Poitra is scheduled back in court on June 20. Allery is scheduled back in court on July 31.
