MOORHEAD – Moorhead Area Public School administrators say they were alerted this morning about a threat towards one of its schools.
A statement from the District says Moorhead Police notified the school of a reported social media group chat that included a threat and image of a gun. This impacted Horizon West Middle School.
Moorhead Police began their investigation, a school spokeswoman said, and identified the student responsible for the message.
“That student is not in school today as law enforcement continues to follow up with those involved,” the district said in a statement to Flag Family News.
The district followed its threat assessment protocol.
Law enforcement informed the district that there ‘is no credible threat to the school.’
Chief Chris Helmick, in a statement to Flag Family News, says his department “remains committed to the safety of all students and staff and continues to work closely with Moorhead Area Public Schools to maintain a safe and secure environment across all district facilities.”
