Three finalists named for Fargo fire chief opening

Fargo, N.D. – Fargo continues to search for a new leader of its fire department, and has narrowed down the field of candidates to three.

Two of the finalists currently work for the city fire department.

Tim Binfet and Craig Nelson are department division chiefs.  Grand Forks Fire Chief Gary Lorenz is also in the running.

The city is hosting an open house at City Hall on May 28th, and the public is invited to attend to meet the trio.

The position opened up after Steve Dirksen retired on May 16th.

The city says they received 15 applications during their national search.

Less than half were picked for virtual interviews before the finalists were chosen by the Fire Chief Selection Committee.

The panel will soon hold in-person interviews with the remaining candidates.

From there, the committee will recommend their final choice to the City Administrator, who will then present their preferred person to the City Commission for their approval.
