FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – On Friday night, July 18, a commercial pilot flying from Minneapolis to Minot performed an aggressive maneuver to avoid a mid-air collision with a U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber plane.
“Shocking that it was that close. You don’t think of things happening close by. It always happens somewhere else,” said Marie Bakker, a traveler.
At Hector International Airport, travelers shared their reaction to the scare through the air.
“A little alarming, I guess, to be honest with you. Everyone thinks it can’t happen to you, but it goes to show that in Fargo or little old Minot, anything can happen. Luckily everyone was safe,” said John Lien, another traveler at Hector International Airport.
While hearing the news that the flight was a bit alarming to some people, they approach taking future plane rides with trust in their pilots.
“At the end of the day, I’m not in control of the airplane either. That’s why you trust pilots and that’s why you trust other people. And they still say that air travel is still safer than ground travel,” said Lien.
Some of the travelers feel that it’s safer through the air as opposed to driving.
“I don’t travel by air a lot, but every time I have, knock on wood, it’s been safe and stress free so I’m going to keep on doing it,” said Lien.
Travelers expressed that flying has been peaceful in their experiences.
