UND Grand Forks to host AI conference on Sept. 10

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A number of stakeholders with expertise ranging from industry, government and education will gather later this month to talk about promoting innovation in the artificial intelligence field.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers will host the ‘Innovation, Workforce, and Research Conference’ at the University of North Dakota’s Grand Forks campus on September 10th.

“It’s not a typical conference,” IEEE Managing Director Russ Harrison told The Flag on Tuesday.  “We’re going to take the entire innovation ecosystem, get them all together in a room and make them talk to each other.”

Harrison says the purpose is to focus on not just the ideas and innovation, but what communities need to succeed.

“This isn’t about getting the next contract or getting business.,” said Harrison.  “This is about the future of our community, where is it going and how can it reach its full potential.”

Harrison says that includes pinpointing “what resources do they need brought in.”

“AI is very powerful and it’s going to do great things for society, but innovation is still a people’s business,” said Harrison.

“It’s about getting the right people at the table to bring the resources to not just create the idea, but make something out of it.”
