FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – With construction wrapped up in downtown Fargo, streets in the heart of downtown are back open.
That construction added a new safety feature to the area.
“We’re really excited. One: we fixed the ADA compliance on the sidewalk. In addition to that, we installed these steel bollards. There’s 11 of them that will drop in during events to help keep the event safe and stop traffic from accidentally going through the area. So, it just really helps secure our events,” says executive director of the Downtown Community Partnership Rocky Schneider.
These bollards will go up during events in downtown that bring heavy foot traffic. Some of those include the Downtown Street Fair & Red River Market.
“We’ve been very proactive. This is just one step,” says Schneider.
The idea behind this is to help prevent vehicle attacks during major Fargo city events. The city is trying to prevent an attack like what happened in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, that killed 14 people.
This isn’t the only precaution being taken to keep you and your family safe during these big, community events.
“We also have deployable barricades coming from the police this year, as well, that we can put at other intersections. The police have new, electric trikes that will be patrolling downtown this summer. We’ve stepped up,” says Schneider.
Along with security cameras & coordination with law enforcement and all the business partners, downtown leaders want everyone to feel safe as they attend events.
