(GRAFTON, ND) – Walsh County leaders are reacting to a failed proposal that would have funded the construction and operation of a new jail and sheriff’s office for the county.
Sheriff Ron Jurgens, in a statement released to Flag Family News, says he respects the voice of voters in Walsh County and thanked all who took the time to vote in the election.
“We will work hard to continue to address the ongoing needs of the county to maintain law and order,” he said.
In a statement, Walsh County Commission Chairwoman Kristi Brintnell also thanked those who voted.
“Unfortunately, the issues we are having with the jail are not going away,” she added. “We will do our best to move forward to address these issues.”
While voters approved a three-quarter percent sales tax, they rejected the idea of increasing the mills by 20. Both issues would have needed to pass for the issue to move forward.
