West Fargo Police Chief clarifies involvement in Lipps case

WEST FARGO, N.D. – West Fargo’s Police Chief is clarifying its involvement in the Angela Lipps investigation by Fargo Police.

“The West Fargo Police Department was involved in the investigation of an unauthorized use of personal identification case,” Chief Pete Nielsen said in a statement to Flag Family News. “The primary person of interest in this case matched similar incidents that took place in the City of Fargo.”

West Fargo Police then requested its intelligence unit attempt to identify a person of interest using facial recognition software.

“The facial recognition software identified a potential suspect with similar features to Angela Lipps,” Nielsen said. “That intelligence information was then shared with the Fargo Police Department, at their request, in relation to their open cases.”

West Fargo Police never issued any charges to anyone as they ‘did not have enough evidence’ in relation to the incident that took place in West Fargo.

Regarding the Fargo case, Nielsen said, “Any referral of charges would have been handled solely by the Fargo Police Department in relation to the case referenced.”
