West Fargo Special Assessment Commission approves neighborhood projects, new traffic signal

WEST FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Tuesday in West Fargo, the Special Assessment Commission held a public hearing.

During the hearing, the commission approved four different improvement districts:

  • District No. 1337 – The Wilds 21st Addition.
    • Installing utilities and making paving and grading improvements.
  • District No. 1339 – The Stockyards Redevelopment (east of 9th Street NW).
    • Redevelop the former cattle stockyards east of 9th Street NW into heavy industrial usage.
  • District No. 2270 – Traffic Signal at 9th Street W and 32nd Avenue W.
    • It will help improve traffic flow along both corridors.
  • District No. 2271 – 7th Avenue NW and 5th Street Court NW.
    • This will use the existing gravel roadway to reconstruct it into a concrete surface with storm sewer and utility adjustments.

Some property owners spoke as they wondered how and where their money is going. City workers had answers:

“It’s in a state of processing as far as who’s paying for those, how much they pay. I know the city commission is pretty adamant about trying to lower special assessments. I think they understand that special assessments are kind of how we pay for a lot of infrastructure, and they’re here to stay, unfortunately,” said Jerry Wallace, City Engineer for the City of West Fargo.
