Senate Passes Sweeping Stimulus Bill

(Washington, DC)  --  The Senate has passed a sweeping stimulus bill that is strongly favored by President Biden.  The final vote was 50-49 along party lines.  The measure goes back to the House, which approved it last week.  House and Senate negotiators will have to work out differences in the two bills before a final measure is approved and sent to the President.  The nearly two-trillion dollar measure features direct checks of 14-hundred dollars to Americans under certain high income thresholds.  Democrats call the bill an urgent priority.  Republicans say it is too costly and filled with things unrelated to the ongoing COVID crisis.
